The international master programme offers students a platform to further develop their individual skill set and philosophy to be able to shape their future role within the design profession. In depth studies within artistic, sociological and technological contexts and theories broadens students' creative and intellectual perspectives. Building on previously acquired knowledge, students plan, visualise, and implement concepts and strategies for new products and services.

By organising exhibitions, taking part in seminars and workshops, students communicate their work, participate in the public debate and contribute to advancing the field of design at large. As designers they will be responsible for conceiving of and ultimately making systems work.

Study trips

Study trips and exhibitions forms a natural part of the Master's programme in Industrial Design. Except for an introduction study tour in the start of the programme, all trips are optional. If a student is unable to participate in the optional activities, alternative assignments in Lund will be given.

• Introduction study tour 4 days (mandatory) - takes place during study week 1
• Study tour NASA, Houston U.S. 2 weeks (optional) - normally during the third semester as part of one of the industrial design projects
• Exhibitions (optional) - normally two exhibitions outside Lund during year 1 or 2: Stockholm Furniture Fair (Sweden) and Milano Fair (Italy)

Please note: Field trips may be subject to cancellation/alteration due to unforeseeable circumstances, such as natural disasters and/or visa denial. 

Career prospects

The Master's programme in Industrial Design fortifies the knowledge and tools required for interdisciplinary collaboration, leadership and being team members who manage complex tasks and situations. Graduates have gone on to successful careers at companies such as IDEO, Google, Sony and IKEA, as well as within entrepreneurship, the public sector and academia. As future designers, students will become key agents of ethical systemic transformations that contribute to the advancement of long-term sustainable development.
