Description

Over the recent years, the world has seen the importance of logistics and supply chain management. In global supply chains and an ever-changing market environment, companies need to change and adapt to remain competitive. Our Master鈥檚 aims to provide students with the resources, mindset and skills necessary to build a successful career in global logistics and supply chain management. We focus on how organizations and supply chains can increase efficiency and effectiveness by managing and improving the activities, the physical flow of material, as well as the information and financial flows in the processes and supply chain. Areas of expertise include supply management, purchasing, materials handling, warehousing, outsourcing, transportation and distribution.

The programme has a multidisciplinary approach to the design, planning and management of sustainable supply chains and logistics strategies, networks, processes and systems and each course brings in aspects of sustainability and circular economy. Many of our teachers are internationally acclaimed researchers who provide students with comprehensive knowledge and pragmatic skills and abilities. Students learn both quantitative and qualitative problem-solving techniques, applied through case studies, project work, business games and simulations.

An analytical mindset and capability to make calculations is needed to develop fact-based recommendations. The programme gives the student solid theoretical knowledge and 鈥渉ands-on鈥 practical experience through many guest lectures, company visits and assignments in collaboration with industry. Each course brings in aspects of sustainability and circular economy and one course is fully dedicated to sustainable and circular supply chain management, as this knowledge is cruicial in order to achieve a clean, fair and unwasteful supply chain.

During the master thesis project, the students work independently applying their skills and solving problems related to logistics and supply chain management, often in collaboration with a company. The thesis project gives experience and valuable contacts that helps to open up to the job market. After graduation, our students will have mastered functionally-oriented problems and they have the ability to work cross-functionally and inter-organizationally.

Industrial manufacturing firms and retailers are seeking well-educated personnel for positions such as supply chain manager, logistics manager, operations excellence developer and purchaser. Transportation firms and logistics service providers, such as management consulting firms and software vendors, now recognise the need for personnel with specialist skills within this area.

The profession is growing and graduates have a very interesting and broad job market. A recent survey showed that alumni of this Master鈥檚 felt they had learned valuable skills and found employment quickly after graduation. After graduation, students can find employment in diverse areas such as strategic sourcing, packaging development, warehouse management, inventory management, international distribution, and sustainable supply chain management. A career can be pursued in manufacturing companies, trade and retail companies, logistics service providers, management consultancy firms, providers of logistics IS/IT, and in humanitarian organisations all around the world.
