What Kalyana says about the Master's in Accounting and Finance
Introducing Kalyana
Hi! My name is Kalyana and I'm the student ambassador for the Master's programme in Accounting and Finance. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about the programme, courses, student life, and life in Lund and Sweden via the Unibuddy Platform, where you can chat with me (see below). Please note that I cannot answer questions about the application process, scholarships, or residence permits.
Why did you choose ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ?
"I chose ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ because it has a long and vibrant teaching history that spans over 350 years and has acquired a position of excellence in international teaching and research contexts. Furthermore, the University has a diversified ethnic environment that allows me to broaden my networking experience. I believe that studying the Master’s programme in Accounting and Finance at ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ will expand my knowledge and skills in accounting theory which will be useful in my future work."
What are your first impressions of your programme? Does it meet your expectations?
"I was overwhelmed with mixed emotions as I prepared to begin my programme in Accounting and Finance. During the first week of the course, I discovered that all three subjects in my programme were attempting to increase my understanding of accounting theory. The programme focused not only on lecturers but also on student participation. Additionally, I gained insights from lecturers and classmates over the last few months through a collaborative learning system that is suitable for my future career."
What have been the highlights of your first months in Lund?
"In the first month of staying in Lund, I tried to adapt to a new environment that had significant differences from my hometown. The first thing I did was join the Swedish language course provided by the university. I got a lot of new information regarding the language and culture of Sweden. Moreover, I participated in an Indonesian traditional dance community. This community gave me an opportunity to contribute to preserving Indonesian heritage. In September, I had my first dancing show in Sweden when I was involved in Kulturnatten (Culture Night). It was an honor for me to be able to introduce Indonesian dance abroad."
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
"The teaching style in Sweden is focused on student-centred learning. Professors are available to aid students and ensure course information is properly comprehended under this method. Students' critical and analytical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and leadership abilities are prioritised. Here, teaching methods emphasise the critical study of course content by employing real-world case studies. Guest lecturers and speakers from industry, government, NGOs, and research are often included in the curriculum to help us connect our studies to the real world."
How international is your programme?
"As a student in the Master’s degree programme in Accounting and Finance at ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ, I am part of a diverse faculty with students from over 24 different countries. I can broaden my perspective when discussing in a group with teammates who have different backgrounds from several countries across Europe and Asia. It is very beneficial for me to be engaged in a global environment."
What are you most looking forward to in your programme?
"I look forward to learning accounting and finance theory in my programme. Having discussions and seminars in the class will shape my understanding of accounting which can be useful for my professional job."
Stay tuned! A more comprehensive testimonial from this student will be published once they have completed their first semester at Lund and have more insights to share about their programme.
