What Oussama says about the Master's in Molecular Biology, Immunology and Infection Biology
Introducing Oussama
Hi! My name is Oussama and I'm the student ambassador for the Master's programme in Molecular Biology, Immunology and Infection. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about the programme, courses, student life, and life in Lund and Sweden via the Unibuddy Platform, where you can chat with me (see below). Please note that I cannot answer questions about the application process, scholarships, or residence permits.
About the programme and the teaching style
Why did you choose ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ?
"ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ was not in my foreseen future. Studying abroad is a dream for many students, but unfortunately, only remains a dream most of the time due to costs. For me, it was a 'do it and forget it ever happened' kind of thing when I applied with slim chances of getting the scholarship. Next thing you know, despite not receiving the scholarship, life happened, and I made it here after a rough and challenging journey. I picked Lund over other universities in Sweden because of how the programme matched everything I was looking for and because it came with a highly recommended review and reputation."
What is the best thing about your programme?
"The best thing about the programme is that we are taught all the required and necessary concepts of immunology, while also having up-to-date knowledge, which prepares and engages us to get involved in the scientific world by analysing and interpreting the work of other scientists."
How international is your programme?
"The programme is more international than local, since most students come from countries other than Sweden and cover all the different continents."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies?
"While the course is covering a lot of theory-based material, some courses have more lab work than others which allow us to gain practical experience."
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"I have been studying internationally since I graduated high school and so far, Lund is the best place I have studied at. I have also heard the same from my friends which has convinced me that I am somewhat on the right path, or so I like to believe. Now would I advise you to pick Lund? That is an answer only you would be able to answer, based on your options. What I can tell you is that picking this programme will surely make you a well-prepared immunologist."
Thoughts on being an international student at Lund, spare time and tips for prospective students
What is it like being an international student at ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ?
"International life in Sweden overall depends on everyone’s own social skills and preferences. If you like to keep to yourself and have wholesome nights in, you will surely find plenty of that here as the weather sets you up for just that during some seasons. On the other hand, if you are more of an outgoing person, you will also find plenty of options. There are activities every week where you get to meet new people and engage in new events. International life is easier in Lund because it has a lot of international students that are also just looking to make new friends."
What do you do in your spare time?
"I barely stay at home for reasons other than food, sleep, or studies. In my spare time, I like to go to the gym, volleyball practice/tournaments, board game nights, pubs, parties, spend a night in at a friend's house, video games, etc. As I mentioned before, there are plenty of options and they are all fun and exciting with the right company!"
What have been the highlights of your first year in Lund?
"Well, the highlights of my first year have been getting to know the city, having friends that I can call family, and having some stability in an unstable journey!"
Do you have any advice for students that are considering coming to Lund?
"My advice for students coming to Lund would be to be friendly whenever possible, don’t be afraid to try new things, get out of your comfort zone, and make the best of the short journey you have here. We tend to remember quality moments from 5-10 years ago, so why not make some more to remember 5-10 years from now!"
