What Duaa says about the Master's in Production and Materials Engineering
Introducing Duaa
Hi! My name is Duaa and I'm the student ambassador for the Master's programme in Production and Materials Engineering. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about the programme, courses, student life, and life in Lund and Sweden via the Unibuddy Platform, where you can chat with me (see below). Please note that I cannot answer questions about the application process, scholarships, or residence permits.
About the programme and the teaching style
Why did you choose ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ?
"I chose ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ because of its strong reputation for both research and education. ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ is one of the top 100 universities globally. To be more specific, my programme is unique in how it prepares students for real-life scenarios."
What do you think of your programme so far? Does it meet your expectations?
"My programme has truly exceeded my expectations by perfectly balancing theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience. I’m impressed by how well it prepares us for the real world, especially through opportunities to work with advanced technology and software."
What is the best thing about your programme?
"A big highlight is the department's strong partnerships with major production companies in Skåne. It improves our learning experience through study visits and guest lectures. The professors are really cool and approachable, which makes learning super fun. I’m also impressed by the level of support and resources the programme provides."
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
"The teaching style in Sweden encourages independent learning. Professors encourage students to ask questions and debate ideas. Professors are open to questions so don't be shy to ask them! The courses are a mix of lectures, labs, group projects and seminars."
How international is your programme?
"My cohort consists of 11 students from seven different countries, so it’s totally international."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies?
"Definitely! Most courses involve group work, and in the later courses, this progresses to projects."
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"In our programme, you can choose the production track, the materials track, or a mix of both. Since students can choose courses based on their interests, you have the flexibility to explore and specialise as the programme advances."
Thoughts on being an international student at Lund, spare time and tips for prospective students
What is it like being an international student at ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ?
"Lund is student-friendly. The university provides different types of support for international students, from language courses to social activities. And, to be honest, almost everyone in Lund speaks English, so there’s nothing to worry about."
What do you do in your spare time?
"This might be debatable, but I personally love hiking in cold weather, taking long walks in the rain, and watching sunsets with jazz playing in the background. Lately, I’ve taken things up a notch by trying skydiving for an extra adrenaline rush! So, I guess my preferences really depend on the weather."
What have been the highlights of your first year in Lund?
"Some highlights include orientation week and the parties and activities organised by the student nations, which made it easy to make friends right from the start. Also, getting to experience snow for the first time in my life!"
Do you have any advice for students that are considering coming to Lund?
"If you're coming from a warm country like me, I strongly recommend getting gloves, a winter coat, a beanie, and vitamins. Because the winter in Lund is strong, you have to be prepared. Another piece of advice is to actively participate in student life! There's a lot to do outside of your studies - join student nations, attend programme-related workshops, and treat yourself to visits around Sweden."
