Description

Our research focuses on tumor immunology, particularly Tumor-Associated Macrophages (TAMs). We aim to reprogram immunosuppressive, pro-metastatic TAMs into an anti-tumor phenotype using advanced molecular biology techniques, mouse models, and patient samples. TAM accumulation is linked to tumor progression and poor survival, with TAMs ranging from anti-tumor (M1-like) to pro-tumor (M2-like) phenotypes. We hypothesized that anti-tumoral perivascular TAMs promote vessel normalization and stimulate cytotoxic T cells, thus suppressing tumor growth. However, pro-tumoral perivascular TAMs are linked to worse prognosis and increased metastasis risk. Recent findings suggest that mRNA translation regulation via eIF4E and MNK signaling pathways affects TAM functions. Our goal is to understand TAM regulation and explore their potential as predictive and prognostic tools in various cancers.
