What is your background?

"I did my Bachelor’s in Material science and engineering, in China, and my thesis focused on nano-materials. I came to Lund because I wanted to gain a deeper understanding of nanoscience and Lund seemed like a good place for that, not least because of the famous research centre, ‘NanoLund’, located there."

What do you think of the programme so far? 

"I’m enjoying the programme and I have learned a lot of new things, especially in physics and nanoscience. The courses are focused on theory, which gives you a solid foundation. Even though the past year was a bit difficult due to Covid, I still had some chances to go to the lab to work on research. I also did some small projects that gave me great experiences."

What is the learning environment like at Lund? 

"I think the teachers are very good, they always take their time to answer your questions and seem to really enjoy what they do. They are also very international and they keep us updated on the latest news within the field. In addition, we have had some workshops at the research centre, NanoLund, which are great for networking and understanding the area of science."

What is it like being an international student in Lund? 

"Lund is very internationally friendly and pretty much everyone speaks English here, which is very helpful. In my institution, there are quite a lot of Swedes this year. Hence, I have great contact with some local students and I think I blend in well with them even though most of my courses were held online last year. I also like the weather here, I thought it was going to be very cold but in SkÃ¥ne, that is actually not the case. Overall, I have had a good experience here in Sweden."

How are the studies here compared to China?

"This programme requires a lot of self-studies as we normally don’t have more than about three lectures per week. In China, we have lectures from morning until night. This programme will help you realise the value of self-discipline and to take responsibility for your studies."

Why do you think a prospective student should choose this programme? 

"If you have a background in material science, physics or nanotechnology, and want to deeper that knowledge – this is a great programme for you. This programme will also introduce you to some advanced research topics that can be highly relevant if you wish to pursue a PhD."

Do you have any advice for students coming to Lund? 

"Bring warm clothes, make sure to plan your living expenses carefully and be prepared for some self-studying."

Do you have any plans after graduation? 

"I plan on pursuing a PhD."
