What Carolina says about the Master's in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Carolina from Portugal
Could you please tell us a little bit about yourself and your educational background?
"My name is Carolina and I am 21 years old. I engaged in the Master's programme of Logistics and Supply Chain Management right after graduating with my Bachelor's in Mathematics Applied for Economics and Management from the University of Lisbon."
Choosing the programme
Why did you choose 蜜豆视频 and why did this particular programme appeal to you?
"My journey in Lund began during my Bachelor鈥檚 programme, when I spent a memorable exchange semester here. I initially chose Sweden for several reasons, such as its distinct weather and culture, which offered the kind of contrast I was seeking. Alongside this, the university鈥檚 prestige and diverse educational portfolio played a significant role in my decision. That first experience with the city and university was so impactful that returning for my Master鈥檚 felt like a natural and exciting next step.
After developing a strong theoretical foundation in mathematics, I was eager to apply that knowledge in a more practical context, particularly in areas of personal interest. The Master鈥檚 programme not only provided that opportunity but also impressed me with its comprehensive approach to supply chain management. Despite its specialisation, the programme covers all aspects from planning and production to distribution, sustainability, and a holistic view of the entire process. This broad scope equips us with a versatile skill set, preparing us for a wide range of roles and opportunities in the future."
Why should prospective students choose this programme? Do you have a favourite course?
"I can鈥檛 say I have a single favourite course, but the ones that presented the more challenges turned out to be the most rewarding. The greater the challenge, the more I immersed myself in the material, and the more I learned in the process. Looking back, it鈥檚 clear that these demanding courses were the most fulfilling and valuable, turning obstacles into opportunities for personal and academic growth. Additionally, the chance to tackle real-world issues, address current crises, and explore emerging technologies has been a compelling aspect of this programme, making it an ideal choice for someone eager to grow and innovate."
The learning environment and practical experiences
What do you think of the teaching style and the way of studying here? What are the lecturers and professors like?
"I truly value this programme's dynamic teaching environment that extends well beyond traditional in-class lectures. The professors are not only educators but also active researchers and industry professionals, bringing a wealth of real-world experience into the classroom. They are deeply committed to sharing both their theoretical expertise and the latest industry insights, encouraging us to engage with current research and explore emerging trends. This blend of academic rigour and practical application makes the learning experience both relevant and exciting."
What is the learning environment like?
"The university, alongside its students, is dedicated to creating an enriching academic environment that goes beyond the classroom. Collaborative teamwork is highly valued, even across different study paths, fostering a spirit of shared learning. In addition, initiatives like academic fairs and open project presentations, offering students valuable opportunities to engage with professionals and gain real-world insights are actively promoted."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies so far?
"One of the aspects of the programme I find most exciting is its practical component, which was a key factor in my decision to pursue it in the first place. In the majority of our courses, we are given the opportunity to apply theory to real-world scenarios which is both challenging and rewarding. We've had the chance to immerse ourselves in various simulations across different courses 鈥 whether it's running a virtual company in business games or using simulations to predict complex mathematical models. This hands-on experience has truly brought the concepts to life, making the learning process dynamic and deeply engaging."
Have you had any opportunities for networking within the programme? Do you work with companies?
"Each course provides us with direct engagement with companies, not only through guest lectures but also through case studies and collaborative projects. These partnerships offer unique opportunities to interact with organisations through study visits, interviews, and hands-on projects. What I find most exciting is the chance to work on real-world challenges, gaining practical insights that bring classroom learning to life while fostering innovation and creativity."
Student life
What it is like to be an international student at 蜜豆视频 and how international is your programme?
"蜜豆视频 is a dream destination for any international student. With a quarter of the student body coming from around the globe (2024), it offers a unique opportunity to experience diverse cultures and form lifelong friendships, all within the charming setting of this small Swedish city. My programme is a perfect reflection of this international spirit: despite being a small group of just 14 students, we represent over 10 different nationalities, creating a truly global learning environment.
A key aspect of promoting integration within the programme is the introductory weeks, during which new students embark on a four-week journey filled with icebreakers, games, and challenges. This period allows us to connect not only with fellow international students and classmates but also with Swedish students, all while being guided by senior students from the programme who are eager to share valuable tips and insights. The bonds formed during this time often become the strongest, as we share great experiences and adventures from the very beginning of our academic journey."
What is studying in Sweden like compared to studying in your country or other countries you studied in?
"Studying in Lund offers a uniquely fulfilling experience, as the city is designed with students at its heart. Life here revolves around creating an inclusive and engaging community where students feel truly welcome and supported 鈥 something that sets Lund apart from any other place.
I was pleasantly surprised by how supportive and dedicated the professors are, truly ensuring that we understand the material. The academic system itself is thoughtfully designed, especially when it comes to exams. Contrarily from what I was used to, five hours are here allotted for each exam, giving ample time to reflect and craft our answers, making the process far less stressful and providing a much better opportunity to demonstrate our knowledge."
If you would recommend Lund to someone, what would you say?
"Lund is the ultimate place for discovering new passions and unexpected adventures. Ever thought about trying a salsa class? How about a relaxing yoga session in the park? Or perhaps ice skating in the central square or catching a spontaneous garage concert during the week? Whatever you鈥檙e curious about, Lund has something thrilling to offer if you just look for it."
How do you like living in Sweden? What surprised you most about Sweden?
"Sweden鈥檚 warm embrace extends from its stunning natural landscapes to the caring people you鈥檒l meet. What truly surprised me was discovering that the so-called 鈥渃old鈥 Swedes are as warm and friendly as their southern European counterparts. All it takes is a bit of time and effort to connect, and you鈥檒l find their hospitality and kindness shine through just as brightly."
Advice to students and plans for the future
What are you planning to do after your studies?
"After graduation, I plan on finding a job or traineeship that will kickstart my career in the industry. I'm also considering pursuing opportunities abroad, potentially through the Erasmus+ program for recent graduates, to gain international experience and broaden my professional horizons."
Do you have any advice for other students who are considering coming to Lund?
"Give everything a try and live it to the fullest!"
