What Lucas says about the Master's in Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Lucas from Brazil
Why did you choose ۶Ƶ and why did this particular programme appeal to you?
"Logistics and Supply Chain Management was a natural choice for me. I always liked this subject during my Bachelor’s, and I even wrote my Bachelor’s thesis in this field. Then, I thought it was the correct time to study this area more in-depth and in an international university. ۶Ƶ appeared to be an excellent option since it is one of the top-100 universities in the world. The university proved even more attractive when I researched the number of international students - ۶Ƶ is one of the most international universities in Europe. These two reasons made me decide to come to Lund."
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"Students should choose Logistics and Supply Chain Management because it is a field with an evident increase in the demand for workers. Also, ۶Ƶ will provide them with an excellent structure and skilled professors. Furthermore, this programme's connection with the industry is impressive, and we frequently have guest lectures and real-life cases to solve."
Do you have a favourite course so far?
"Management of Production and Inventory Systems and Warehousing and Material Handling are my favourite courses so far, and they share a particular feature. Both courses have huge projects that demand a lot of time and effort. However, it is impressive how much knowledge you gain from them. Warehousing and Material Handling usually has a project associated with a Swedish company, and I had the privilege of working with Scania."
What do you think of the teaching style and the way of studying here?
"Lectures are two hours in duration with a 15-minute break in between. Typically, the course content is explained and exemplified during this time. Besides these standard lectures, we also have many guest lectures where we can see the course content used in practice and expand our network.
Additionally, we need to dedicate a lot of time to solving exercises and assignments during the week. We usually have two or three assignments per course and need to solve them in groups of four people. This is essential to enhancing teamwork skills and working in multicultural environments with people from all over the world.
Finally, the professors are excellent and always open to solving issues and answering questions. It is a healthy relationship between students and professors."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies so far?
"That is probably one of the programme's best features. We have to do practical work all the time. Assignments are developed to provide a holistic view of the situation, and we also have different ways to come up with solutions. Good teamwork is essential in this case. We also gain practical experience using essential software for the industry such as Excel and MATLAB (or any other programming software). We also work with simulations and this is an important feature to simulate events that can happen during real work in the industry. There is also a possibility to find a summer job during the summer break to enhance the experience."
