What Heaven says about the Master's in Production and Materials Engineering
Heaven from Sweden
What year did you graduate?
"I graduated in June 2021."
What is your current job and where is it located?
"I'm currently working as a Process Engineer for Scania in Södertälje, Stockholm."
How did you find your job and how long did it take? Did you come in contact with your employer during your studies?
"I came in contact with the company through a career fair at ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ, but I found the job through LinkedIn. I got the job while I was writing my thesis."
What is your favourite thing about your job?
"My favourite thing about my job is the amount of confidence it brings me, knowing that I am a crucial part of something bigger than myself."
What was especially useful about the programme that you use in your everyday work?
"For my role, the courses related to quality and process optimisation have had the most impact on how well I perform in my job."
What do you miss most from your time at ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ?
"The thing I miss the most about Lund is the student life, as well as the constant strive for knowledge."
What was the focus of your thesis?
"My thesis was about axial cutting force in drilling operations. I created a model that can calculate the axial cutting force to help customers choose the right tool and cutting data for optimal outcome."
Why do you think prospective students should choose the Production and Materials Engineering programme?
"Not only did I get the theoretical knowledge from this programme that education is supposed to provide, but I also got a lot of insight into how the industrial world works. These insights helped me to get my job before graduation, and, more importantly, they have helped me to excel in my role."
Do you have any advice for prospective students coming to Lund?
"Make the most out of it! Lund has so much to offer. You will have great professors with a lot of knowledge. Take advantage and ask a lot of questions. You can become teaching and lab assistants and engage in student life to make friends and create connections. One piece of advice that my graduating class mostly wishes we had listened to is to learn Swedish. It might not seem important because everyone speaks English, but it will open more doors and create better opportunities if you do learn some Swedish. If knowledge is power and language is knowledge, why wouldn't you want that power?"
