What Nabeel says about the Master's in Production and Materials Engineering
Nabeel from India
What year did you graduate?
"I graduated in June 2022."
What is your current job and where is it located?
"I work as an Incoming Quality control Analyst with Northvolt Ett in Skellefteå, Sweden."
How did you find your job and how long did it take?
"I found this job through LinkedIn and the whole process from starting the job search to landing this position took about four months."
Favourite thing about your job?
"The international atmosphere in Northvolt Ett is very similar to ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ. Another good aspect is the nature of the work we do. It is research intensive with a focus on root cause analysis and I am very satisfied with my learning curve."
How are you changing the industry or the world (in a large or small way)?
"Northvolt Ett is a gigafactory that makes prismatic Batteries. It is the first of its kind in Sweden. Most challenges we face here are unique and we have no benchmark or past data to refer to. I like being a part of a company that’s contributing towards a sustainable future by working towards manufacturing 100% green batteries. From using renewable sources entirely in the factory to recycling and reusing all materials to complete the product life cycle, I feel proud to be a part of a company contributing towards the environmental cause."
What was especially useful about the programme that you use in your everyday work?
"A lot of aspects. I primarily took with me the sustainable mindset which I now include in everything I do at work. I also found a lot of value in courses offered at the Faculty of Engineering (LTH) because I directly applied the skills here at Northvolt. There were courses on materials where I used the SEM and other microscopy techniques, courses on Production and quality tools that helped me in having an idea of the bigger picture of where my team fits in in the battery manufacturing cycle etc. Another aspect worth mentioning is the work culture I developed at LTH. The courses promoted a lot of teamwork and sharing of ideas which I try to incorporate in my everyday work life."
What do you miss most from your time at ÃÛ¶¹ÊÓƵ/LTH? What were the highlights of your time at Lund?
"I made a lot of Swedish and International friends here and I have really good memories with them. The workload was well balanced and left me enough time for extracurricular activities and leisure."
How international was your programme?
"In my batch, there were 16 students with 7 different nationalities, if I remember correctly. It was very interesting to learn about different cultures and make so many international friends. I am still in touch with a lot of them and it’s very resourceful when I visit different countries."
What was the focus of your thesis?
"My thesis focused on generating data on finding the right parameters for machining select polymer materials on a lathe and a milling machine."
Why do you think prospective students should choose this programme?
"I highly recommend the programme in Production and Materials Engineering if this field is of interest to you. Make sure to read through the course structure since some courses are mandatory. The Faculty is extremely experienced and very friendly. You will get a lot of chances to build your network at student fairs and with visiting lecturers from various companies. In addition, you will make a lot of international friends and memories for life."
Do you have any advice for prospective students coming to Lund?
"The first advice is to start learning Swedish. Even though the course is in English and the fact that in Lund, it will never be a problem, it helps in finding jobs after graduation. Also, take the opportunity of Lund's geographic location and take the time to explore Sweden and Europe."
